9/27/02 :: Here's one project that I've been working on for nearly a month... the steering wheel! Days of sanding, days of filling, more sanding, days of staining and now days of poly-urethaning. 9 coats so far - it's starting to look really good!

It's not quite done - probably another day or two of work but it's been so long I had to feel like I was making a bit of progress to post here...
(and I wouldn't want certain people to think I was slacking off :-)

Scraped Tub 9/27/02 :: And another project that goes very slowly... scraping paint and tar off the badly rusted tub... some areas are so bad that you can't even scrape w/o putting a whole through the sheet metal - other spots just inches away are solid as a rock.

If you've never had the joy of scraping paint you can't appreciate just how long it's taken to get this far... and how far I have to go - the whole center hump needs to be done as well as the firewall area down by your feet - that's going to be "fun" for sure.

Garage Set Up 9/29/02 :: We've finally gotten the garage mostly put together... work bench, parts washer, bins for parts that come off the car, and of course, our new "Honda" clock :-) It's getting a little tight with all the new "toys" but fortunately, it's a small car! The big empty area in front of the bins and table will be taken up by my Civic when the snow falls.

More scraping yesterday - got most of the center hump paint removed. I think the dash will need to come out before I can get further in towards the firewall on either side. More poly on the wheel too - Joe says it looks really good - but how many more coats?!

Dash Removed 10/01/02 :: Look ma - no dash! All the instrument cluster and wiring had to be disconnected and labeled on both ends so we can put it back together properly when the time comes. Hopefully this will make scraping paint easier and the horn knob will no longer try to poke me in the eye.

Now we can also see that we're missing more parts - oh joy. On the plus side, the sheet metal behind the dash looks really good - much better than the floor :-) It's a constant source of amazement how much "good" metal there still is in the car.

One Clean Carb 10/03/02 :: Joe finished the heli-coil inserts on our carbs and they are now back together. I'm spending time making them look prettier when I need a break from scraping paint! Can you tell which one I have been spending time on?

I am still putting coats of poly on the wheel - I'm starting to think it will never be finished! Scraping is going well - I have almost the entire hump scraped down as well as a chunk of the firewall area on the passenger side. The heater needs to come out soon to reach the paint behind it.

More Scraped Tub 10/06/02 :: After a breif hiatus to drive to NY to see more than 70 S2000s gather for show, maintenance and autocross, we are back at work on the car. I have carb #2 almost completely polished and the entire hump scraped free of paint!

I'm afraid I have saved the hardest part for last, the firewall area where feet will go when there's enough sheet metal to sit in the car. More coats of poly on the wheel as well and I think only a few more will complete it - really - there may come a day (soon) that I don't put poly on the wheel...
