Chatham Honda, Scotland (Email from John H of Scotland)

"I just found your website, as it was mentioned by someone on another chat group I am on. I don't actually know where you are, (Canada somewhere?) but I am in Scotland. I am mailing you because I am fascinated by the name of your car.

Chatham ... why do you call the car that?

Did you know that one of the very first importers of Hondas (first bikes, then cars) was a gentleman called Graeme P Chatham? He is now retired, and the business is run by his son Campbell Chatham, who happens to be a friend of mine.

Back in the 70's Siochiro Honda came to Scotland and stayed with the Chatham family, indeed they became quite close friends.

Old Mr Honda was apparently very partial to some of the nightlife and casinos in Edinburgh, and in return, the Chatham business used to run trips to Japan for some of their early customers. Campbell Chatham has a superb S800 Coupe which the garage restored some years back.

Chatham Honda still exists as an independent family run business in Edinburgh, although it is bigger and more corporate now, as is the way of stuff.

You can read more about them on their web site at www.chathams.co.uk. There is even some of the history there that I mentioned.

I'm willing to bet you did not know any of this when you chose the name ... or did you?"
